St. Francis De Sales

St Francis De Sales, Doctor of the University Church, was born at Thorens, in Savoy in 1567. He was ordained in 1593. He was a learned man, full of zeal and an exceptional preacher. He was also renowned for his kindness, patient, gentleness and holiness. He drew many people, who had been influenced by the reformation, back to the practice of their Catholic faith.

In 1602 he was consecrated Bishop of Geneva, based in Annecy. He immediately set about reforming the church in his diocese, instructing the faithful in their faith and visiting all the parishes scattered throughout the rugged mountains. He had an intense love for the poor.
